Daily Roundup- Wednesday, April 1st

Well its official. Jay Cutler is on the trading block, although it could in the end be a very elaborate April Fool’s joke. But needless to say that Gary Myers stated the obvious when he said that the Jets are interested.

I think this is a BIG mistake. Needless to say that Jet fans are now looking only at Jay Cutler in positives. Here’s a guy who was once the rocket armed quarterback who led a horrible Vanderbilt team to some sort of respectability and won the ACC player of the year award. Here’s a guy who was a first round pick and brought in as the heir apparent to that guy that won two Super Bowls in Denver.
Unfortunately the negatives far outweigh the positives here. This is a guy who has pouted and whined. Talks too much trash. Every QB that comes into this league has some sort of ability but that doesn’t make them franchise guys. Somehow he has this label because what?
He’s all hype. I am currently piecing together an article as to why the Jets should stay away. Stay far away from this guy so I’m not going to get too deep into it but needless to say, the Jets should stay away. Stay very very far away.

As a Met fan it pains me to bring you this bit of news today courtesy of the SI cover.

Wonderful, that’s all we need. Its not like we didn’t collapse two years ago and lost out on the final weekend again last year, but suddenly SI wants to make it a perfect trifecta of heartbreaking Septembers by picking us to win the World Series. Well let me be the first to say that I do not like this. I don’t like this at all.

Speaking of prominent people changing addresses, John Calipari is taking the job at Kentucky. Mike Lupica says its one of the last few dream jobs left.

If you’re a sports fan, then the name of Adolph Rupp alone should have you remembering a great man who led some of the greatest college basketball teams ever. But if you’re a coach, its one of those opportunities, should it ever come up in your life, that you can’t help but jump at.
Most of the time I hate when coaches just jump ship to go to a school. In college, the thought of kids who committed to your former school now being left in the wind because of promises you made in their living room to both them and their parents or guardians just makes me upset about the way this business works. But in light of an opportunity like Kentucky, selfishness is not some excuse that gets blamed, its something you can cling to as self defense.
Its selfishness that drives most of these coaches, constantly looking for that next big paycheck. Forget being a legend at one institution or building up one program. These guys are like traveling salesman, until they retire. This is a job, should he take it and be successful at, he should just retire with. It’s the ultimate post at a hallowed program with a history that passes most other programs.
Last year should have been Calipari’s first championship had it not been for a hail mary three. Now, Calipari has a chance for retribution and at a program that will pay him a kingly ransom and allow him the notoriety that Memphis never could.
Calipari has the chops to succeed at this level and should there come a time when he decides to retire, it should be to the wonderful graces of the Kentucky rafters. This is it John. You walk away from this, you walk away from any respectability. Then it will be about the money. It’s the same as UCLA or UNC. These are all posts that are equivalent to a post at Kentucky. You now have one of the big time jobs. So, unless you have a problem with the AD (athletic director) or you just plain stink up the joint, John stay here. Prove to me that you’re not like any of those money grubbing you know whats that spit out hollow words to appease a group of people all while stirring the pot for some more dollars. It could happen, but we all want fairy tale endings in sports. Many times we don’t get the chance. John Calipari has his chance now at one of the best programs ever.
